History

After 20 years of working for the man, brothers Roger and Tom Evans' dream came to fruition when The 219 opened its doors on July 18, 1997. Roger's mother-in-law, Marilyn Heilig, created a menu and several signature dishes that would rank her among the most highly touted chefs in Hampton Roads. Her softball-sized jumbo lump crab cake is quite possibly the best you'll ever have. Yeah, yeah, we know everyone says that, but you'll just have to taste for yoursef.

A decade later, The 219 is still a family affair. Owners Rob and Patti Peterson, together with their parents, Patty Walsh and Pete and Mary Ellen Peterson, took over The 219 in August 2005. Always a family favorite, they kept The 219 exactly as it was - a casual, yet elegant restaurant where you could go dressed to the nines for a night at the theater or just hang out in a pair of jeans.

Over the years, The 219 has proven to be a force to be reckoned with on the dining scene. Winning numerous awards - including induction into Portfolio Weekly's Golden Fork Hall of Fame - for its unique and creative dishes and well-planned wine lists, it continues to please its eclectic clientele with tasty menu items and ever-changing daily specials.

So, swing on by and treat your taste buds to a night on the town.

One more thing - don't forget to save room for White Chocolate and Banana Bread Pudding. Trust us on this one.
